Dr Gbemi Oluleye is Associate Professor of Sustainable Market Mechanisms at the Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment, Imperial College London. She leads the Market Interventions for Deep Decarbonisation (MIDD) Lab, which develops data-driven analytical and empirical models to design and evaluate market-based mechanisms that accelerate the diffusion and economic viability of sustainable solutions (carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS), direct air capture, hydrogen, electrification, and synthetic molecules and fuels) across heavy sectors (steel, cement, petrochemicals, refining, aviation, shipping, construction, and heavy-duty transport). Her interdisciplinary models connect concepts in engineering, economics, policy, finance to provide evidence on when and how mechanisms such as emissions trading schemes, subsidies, contracts-for-difference, carbon taxes unlock demand-pull for sustainable solutions and drive economic tipping points.
